Pedestrian hit by truck on highway

A female pedestrian was taken to Oamaru hospital with head injuries about 4.10pm yesterday after she was struck by a north-bound truck near the corner of Thames Highway and Clare St.

Sergeant Blair Wilkinson said preliminary inquiries suggested the woman may have been intoxicated and stumbled out in front of the truck.

The investigation was continuing, and Sgt Wilkinson was unable to say if any charges would be laid.

•Two women were taken to Oamaru Hospital by ambulance late yesterday afternoon after the car they were in rolled on Homestead Rd.

Sergeant Blair Wilkinson said several vehicles were involved in the incident. The women's injuries were not thought to be serious.
