Waitaki's mayor to seek second term

Waitaki Mayor Alex Familton is to seek a second term, yesterday confirming he would stand for the mayoralty in this year's October local body elections.

It is the first indication from Mr Familton he will contest the mayoralty, after earlier this year asking for time to consult supporters and make a decision.

Yesterday's announcement stemmed from that support.

Mr Familton won the mayoralty in 2007, gaining 1770 votes more than incumbent Alan McLay.
