Writer Kate Camp will hold a creative writing workshop in Oamaru today.

The Wellington poet, essayist and reviewer was invited to Oamaru by the Janet Frame Eden Street Trust.

Twenty people have signed up for the workshop, which will be held in the Janet Frame reading room at Waitaki Girls High School.

Participants would later visit Janet Frame's childhood home in Eden St to "absorb the atmosphere of a great writer's house", trust chairwoman Carol Berry said.

At night, Camp will discuss books with Jim Hopkins in the InkBox theatre in the Opera House.

A new group, Friends of Janet Frame House, will also be launched that night.

Yesterday, Janet Frame's birthday, a new display looking at the relationship the late author had with Oamaru was to be unveiled at the North Otago Museum.

The Janet Frame Literary Trust has lent some of her possessions, including her father's chanter and a glass jelly dish.

All the objects on display related to, or were mentioned in her writing, museum curator Ian Wards said.
