An air rifle was seized from a man on the Frankton Arm Walkway in Queenstown last night.
Acting Sergeant Terry Wood, of Queenstown, said the 21-year-old foreign national, who lives in the resort, was intoxicated when police found him carrying the firearm while walking with three others on the popular walking track about 11.20pm.
Police had responded to a call from a concerned member of the public, Acting Sgt Wood said.
A decision on whether he would be charged had yet to be made.
