An application to cut down ash trees beside Wanaka Mt Aspiring Rd will be considered by the Wanaka Community Board today.
The application to remove two trees is being lodged by the developers of the controversial Stoney Creek Retirement Village - a project which has been stalled since December last year.
An application by Stoney Creek Village Ltd for resource consent in January 2008 angered neighbours, who formed a protest against the proposed 97-unit Meadowstone complex.
However, the 1.83ha site for the proposed village has a building height covenant which restricts development to 7m above ground level - the developers wanted 10 units between 7.4m and 12.2m high.
The application to fell the trees - prepared in August by multinational consultancy firm Beca - states that their client's have "a number of matters . . . currently being worked through, with a view to attending a [resource consent] hearing in November/December this year".
The application to remove the two trees - to make way for a new access road - is independent of the consent application needed for the proposed retirement village.
The matters to be considered by the Wanaka board relate specifically to the identified trees, Beca's report states.
