An experienced Arrowtown-based artist and teacher is running a series of art-making workshops exploring different styles.

Holly Schroder, who launched The Arts Club Arrowtown, will start with a life-drawing workshop with a twist, on September 30 at Ayrburn’s Barrel Room.

"This life-drawing class is less about perfectly depicting reality, and more about capturing the energy and essence of the subject," she said.

A live, clothed model will join the second half of the class.

Schroder, who ran a few classes at the Auckland Art Gallery when living up there, said no experience was needed and all materials, plus an easel, would be provided.

The first workshop starts at 6.30pm on September 30 with tickets, $99, via www.theartsclubarrowtown.com.

For her second workshop, a month later, she will give guidance on painting "messy" monochrome self-portraits.
