Aurora has applied for resource consent to replace its electricity lines and poles between Wanaka and Cardrona township.
The 11kV line needs upgrading to connect with a new power substation, which Aurora was granted consent last year to build.
The proposed upgrade to a 33/66kV line will also require replacement of all 172 power poles between Wanaka and Cardrona.
Aurora says in its consent application that the infrastructure upgrade is needed to service increasing electrical supply demands in and around the Cardrona township.
Several large-scale developments are planned in the growing township.
Skifields in the area have increased their power needs and several permitted developments are awaiting construction.
The planned Pisa Range gondola to access Snow Park, Snow Farm, and a proposed Roaring Meg skifield resort, and a council plan change - which authorised a new village of up to 1000 residential and visitor dwellings at Mt Cardrona Station - are two major permitted developments, scheduled to come on line.
Aurora's consent application contends that the proposed electricity lines will have "little or no adverse environmental effects" on the designated Outstanding Natural Landscape zoned area.
The Dunedin City Council-owned company also wants to place underground a new set of 11kV lines along a 1.2km stretch of road between Ballantyne Rd and Orchard Rd.
The new line will service an "intensity of residential development" in the area, Aurora's application states.
