A Queenstown coffee roaster has claimed top honours in the New Zealand Coffee Awards again.

Bill Yuill, owner of Bean Around the World, won the judges over with his Arrow Gold roasted espresso, described as ''the best espresso blend in the competition'' by Cafe magazine and a team of international judges.

He also won the award in 2006.

''It's easy to work on your own and think you've got the formula right, but when the country's experts tell you you're doing it better than anybody else, it's a great feeling.''

Mr Yuill, who has been in the business for 13 years, uses Arabica beans, a blend of Colombian, Kenyan and Papua New Guinean beans, supplied from Auckland and roasted at the back of his Athol St premises.

While he supplies cafes and restaurants in the resort and further afield, he also wants Queenstown residents to consume Queenstown coffee in their homes.

''I don't want to take over the world, I'm not into mass-producing and sacrificing quality for the big bucks.

''One thing I've learnt over the 13 years I've been roasting is that coffee plays such an important part in people's days around here, that they're always looking for the best coffee experience.''

Mr Yuill has started making home deliveries for Queenstown residents, offering them a choice of beans or ground coffee - the latter done on delivery.
