Changes as buses fill up

Wanaka Connexions general manager Tony Collins says the increase in petrol prices is a "double-edged sword" for the bus company.

The high cost of fuel drove customers to use buses for their transport needs - primarily to Queenstown - but the increase in passengers was balanced by the outgoing petrol payments.

The demands of passengers had resulted in the bus company "rejigging" its timetable, he said.

More people from Wanaka were using the service to access Queenstown Airport and the company altered its schedule to fit flight timetables, he said.

Despite the passenger increases, the spike in petrol prices kept margins tight, he said.
