A driver faces charges after allegedly careering into three stationary cars in Arrowtown before crashing into a paddock.
The 20-year-old woman was arrested on McDonnell Road, Arrowtown, shortly after 3.30am on Saturday.
Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said: “The vehicle, driven by a female, has crashed into three parked cars, damaging them, before carrying on for about 200 metres and then driving into a paddock.”
All four vehicles sustained “extensive” damage, he said.
The woman has been charged with careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident to ascertain whether anyone was injured.
A drink-driving breath test at the scene was incomplete and police are awaiting the results of a blood test.
The woman’s 24-year-old female passenger was also subject to a blood test after members of the public at the scene allegedly said they’d seen her in the driver’s seat too.
The 24-year-old has also been charged with resisting arrest and escaping police custody.
Both woman are due to appear before a registrar at Queenstown District Court on Wednesday.
