Complaint ends in fine

A 42-year-old Cromwell man was issued an instant fine after a member of the public complained to Queenstown police about his driving.

The man had reportedly passed on a yellow centre line on State Highway 6 near Arrowtown at midday on Tuesday. Senior Constable Chris Blackford said reporting such incidents was encouraged.

The number to call concerning road behaviour is 555.

• An iPhone 5 was taken from a checkout counter at The Warehouse in the Remarkables shopping centre. A Queenstown man reported his stolen iPhone to Queenstown police and a suspect was identified on CCTV footage. ''The person who had picked the phone up might want to deliver it to the police station before we come knocking on their door,'' Snr Const Blackford said.

• A 21-year-old Queenstown man was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour after plants were pulled out of pots on Wednesday morning at the Steamer Wharf. The man had been asked by Boiler Room staff to leave the bar and because of his level of intoxication he became angered and ''did a bit of weeding'', Snr Const Blackford said. He will appear in the Queenstown District Court on January 14.

• At 5.22pm on Wednesday, a man was seen shoplifting at Fresh Choice. Police are waiting to view CCTV footage. A 20-year-old New Zealand man was stopped while driving on Hallenstein St at 12.33am on Thursday and due to police officers smelling cannabis, his car was searched. Police alleged officers found 7.5g of the class C drug and said the man would appear in Queenstown District Court.
