Portrait of a Life-cast of Koe (right profile, painted), Timor (2010) by Fiona Pardington, of Auckland, is from "Ahua" - a series of photographs of life-casts made during one of Jules Dumont d'Urville's South Pacific voyages from 1837 to 1840. Photto supplied.
Leading New Zealand photographers Fiona Pardington and Neil Pardington open their new exhibition with a talk about their influences and careers in Arrowtown next week.

The pair received prestigious New Zealand Arts Foundation Awards last year for their outstanding contribution to the visual arts. Fiona Pardington, of Auckland, was a recipient of the high-ranking Laureate Award while her brother Neil, of Wellington, received the Marti Friedlander Award for excellence in photography.

Both artists will feature in a panel discussion in Dorothy Brown's Cinema before a joint exhibition titled Tewhare opens next door in the Nadene Milne Gallery in Arrowtown.

Gallery owner Nadene Milne said yesterday the exhibition will include eight works by Fiona and six works by Neil.

Both artists have been represented by the gallery since 2001, she said.

"Both artists share a deep interest in New Zealand history and consistently produce powerful and provocative work.

"This exhibition is in recognition and celebration of Neil and Fiona winning Arts Foundation awards."

The Pardingtons will give their address in the cinema on Friday, March 16, at 7.30pm. The exhibition opens at 8.30pm.

Seats were limited so interested parties were encouraged to book in advance by calling the cinema on (03) 442-1964.
