The group of former athletes, international competitors, judges, administrators and supporters of the niche sport organised the informal get-together to reunite the far-flung members of the pioneering freestyle fraternity, association spokesman Paul Kerridge said.
Freestyle skiing is an Olympic discipline, and is based on the moguls format, which features a judged run down a bumpy course and has two aerial jumps where competitors can earn points based on the difficulty of their tricks.
The freestyle format has evolved into today's popular "free ski" discipline to include the halfpipe and slopestyle, which are on the agenda for inclusion at future Winter Olympics.
New Zealand had two competitors contest the freestyle event at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, Kylie Gill and Richard Ussher.
Ussher went on to reinvent himself as an endurance athlete and top multisport competitor.
Former New Zealand freestyle coach Greg Harrington, of Wanaka, was at the forefront of the sport and during the weekend reunion showed he had lost none of his skill and verve.
