The eight-piece band releases the second single and title track from its upcoming second album, Black Brown And White, which hits the shops on August 31.
The album was recorded in Wellington with producer Lee Preeble, who worked with the Black Seeds, the Phoenix Foundation and Kora among many others.
Lead singer and guitarist Marty Greentree describes the song as the band's version of the blues.
"It's purposely sparse and stripped back, not overcrowded with instruments and other melodic embellishments, so that you get a real a sense of space, loneliness and vulnerability.
"We swapped it around so that the guitar sings and is the storyteller in this song and the vocals are there to support the message of the guitar.
"At its core, it is blues soul music, about honest reflection, self-examination and the pain of being alone. Set against a backdrop of classic Tahuna groove, courtesy of bassist Winks [James Winkle] and drummer Timmy G [Tim Gemmell], this tune is sure-fire nourishment for your soul."
Southern Lakes music lovers get the chance to experience Tahuna Breaks for free as part of the Willowridge Wanakafest, on Friday, October 16.
The band performs at Wanaka's Mint Bar that night, then at Queenstown's Revolver on Saturday, October 17.
Pre-sale tickets are $16 from Play It Again Records and the venues, or $20 on both doors.
