Bantering blues men Steve Apirana and Derek Lind take in the Southern Lakes when they tour the South Island next month.

The duo play their laid-back brand of harmonious blues and folk-rock music to St Andrew's Wakatipu Community Church, Stanley St, on November 9 at 7pm, followed by Wanaka Presbyterian the next evening.

TEAR Fund events manager Megan Claxton said the duo were well-known for their home-grown mix of thought-provoking, often humorous, blues and folk-rock music. While the musicians had a serious message about the plight of poor children in developing nations, their concerts were far from serious with their spontaneous sense of humour, she said.

"Both musicians have been zealous supporters of TEAR Fund and for many years they have toured together to promote child sponsorship, Mrs Claxton said.

"Lind, in particular, has travelled in the developing world and is passionate about making Kiwis aware of how little it takes to make a difference in the life of a child."
