Investigation continues into resort home invasion

Wanaka police are sifting fact from fiction as the investigation into a home invasion in Stratford Tce continues.

Almost three weeks ago, three men armed with weapons and wearing bandannas entered a house and demanded drugs and money from the occupants.

They allegedly hit one man over the head with a wheelbrace.

The victims were two men and a woman aged in their early 20s.

Three other people were visiting the house at the time.

Police have said the property was specifically targeted.

Sergeant Aaron Nicholson had no new information for the Otago Daily Times, saying only that the investigation was ongoing and police were still reviewing all the evidence.

He was aware of speculation in the community about the incident, including talk that Black Power gang members could be involved, but said it was a matter of sorting rumour from fact.

Sgt Nicholson urged people who thought they knew who the offenders were to contact the police with their information rather than take matters into their own hands.

• A burglary was reported at a flat in Brownston St on Tuesday at 10.10pm. Senior Constable Sean Hurley said an offender entered the house through an unlocked door and attempted to steal a stereo from the lounge room.

A resident woke up when she heard the intruder, who subsequently abandoned the stereo and fled the scene.
