Kass due in Christchurch court today

United States double silver Olympic medallist Danny Kass will appear in the Christchurch District Court today and is expected to admit a charge of careless driving.

Daniel Scott Kass (27), of Oregon, United States, was charged last week with endangering public safety, after allegedly driving a vehicle up the main run of McDougalls, at Cardrona, on August 17.

Cardrona has banned Kass from returning to the ski area.

Kass was due to appear in the Queenstown District Court yesterday, facing a charge of having control of a motor vehicle on Cardrona skifield, which "in the absence of precaution was likely to cause injury, with reckless disregard for the safety of others and without reasonable excuse, to drive on to an open skifield where members of the public were skiing at the time, and leaving it in an unsafe position."

However, it is understood that charge was withdrawn yesterday and a lesser charge of careless driving would be laid this morning.
