No Hills appeals made

No appeals have been received yet on a decision by independent commissioners John Matthews and Andrew Henderson to allow 17 subterranean houses at The Hills golf course, in Arrowtown.

Lakes Environmental secretary Rachel Beer said the appeal period would technically end on Monday, but appeals would be accepted "a couple of days" after.

The decision was dated June 16, but some submitters may not have received the decision until June 18 or 19, Ms Beer said.

Thirty-four submissions were received - 24 in support, 17 against and three neither in support nor opposition.

The resource consent will allow The Hills, owned by entrepreneur Michael Hill, to construct the 17 dwellings around his private 18-hole championship golf course.

However, there are stringent controls in place.

One of those controls was regarding outdoor furniture - aside from placing outdoor furniture, including a barbecue, on a limited area around each house, "virtually nothing else can occur".

"Use of the house lots for the normal trappings of domesticity such as trampolines, spa pools and so forth will be prohibited."
