Detailed designs will be drawn up for road rehabilitation works in Panorama Tce, Queenstown, following the Queenstown Lakes District Council infrastructure committee's approval of concept plans on Tuesday.

QLDC acting capital works manager Steve Hewland presented the concept phase report to the committee at a meeting in Wanaka, outlining a suite of 15 options to improve the pavement, road surfaces, kerbs and channels.

The plans will also address parking bays, traffic calming features, the replacement of foul sewer pipes, drains, storm-water pipes, street lighting and the undergrounding of overhead power supply lines.

Panorama Tce residents would receive a letter outlining the preferred design option and a timeline for the physical works to be carried out.

Construction would begin in October.

Mr Hewland said the multi-faceted nature of the project and unavailability of a budget this financial year, meant the physical works had been deferred to the next financial year.

Considerable trenching would be required and it would be economical to do the services work at the same time as the pavement work.

Project manager Ken Gousmett told the committee Delta had not yet formally approved its 50% share in the undergrounding project.

"Residents had a strong desire for undergrounding and this [was acceptable to] Delta, so has been included in the project on that basis," Mr Gousmett said.

Cr Trevor Tattersfield said he was not happy with the speed humps, which he felt were not needed and were a "knee-jerk reaction".

Cr Jude Battson asked what residents thought of them.

Mr Gousmett said residents had not yet been asked.

"We will have to go back to them on that. They are a response to residents' concerns about speed," Mr Gousmett said.
