Nomad Safaris has been recognised for its high standards of environmental practices with a Qualmark Enviro-Gold Award.
To gain the award the Queenstown tour operator had to show effectiveness in energy efficiency, waste management and water conservation, while community activities and conservation initiatives were also considered under Qualmark's environmental criteria.
Owners David and Amanda Gatward-Ferguson said in a statement they were "extremely happy" with the achievement.
"Last year, we were awarded Enviro-Silver and we are absolutely delighted to have had our hard work recognised this year with an upgrade to Enviro-Gold.
"This is testament to the effort all of our staff put into making sure that everything we do minimises our impact on the environment, from careful driving, to stopping and collecting wild rubbish at the side of the tracks we frequent, to careful use of water and power at all our premises."
Qualmark chief executive Geoff Penrose said more than 470 businesses had received Enviro Awards.
