Empanada Kitchen's Mauro Viale, who recently opened a kiosk selling empanadas at the park, has been experimenting with different flavours to fill the pasty-like treats and sauces to accompany them, as New Zealanders like their sauces.
The Stewart Island octopus empanadas ''went down really well'' and sold out within the first two hours of being put in the kiosk's warmer.
''I think the fact it's an affordable price they [customers] take more risks,'' Mr Viale said.
The business is already attracting return customers looking for their favourite flavours, including beef, blue cheese and stout; truffle, mushroom and garlic; and lamb and tapenade.
And more new flavours are always on the horizon.
''I don't want to get bored and I want to get people trying new stuff.''
Mr Viale successfully pitched his business case to the Queenstown Lakes District Council after it sought a business to operate from a kiosk on the outside of the new Earnslaw Park toilet block.
When the council asked for submissions from the public about whether to grant a lease to the Empanada Kitchen, 57 were received in support while just four were against.
The food is prepared off-site and the kiosk is separate to the rest of the building.
