People can legally play frisbee in Wanaka's Lismore Park, a Queenstown Lakes District Council hearings panel has decided.
The decision of Cr Jude Battson (panel chairwoman) and Wanaka Community Board members Ken Copland and Mike O'Connor was released by the council's property services agent, APL, on Monday.
Disc Golf Wanaka had been challenged about the proposed frisbee course because the park was designated for "passive recreation" and some people felt frisbee was not passive.
However, the panel has concluded frisbee is a form of passive recreation as described by Wikipedia.
The Wanaka Community Board will be asked to adopt the decision at its meeting on April 20.
Disc Golf Wanaka chairman Martin Galley said yesterday he was pleased with the outcome.
"As soon as we get the final OK, we will go about applying for funding from various bodies," he said.
