Gunshots ring out of the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall every evening this week, but luckily it is because Remarkable Theatre is busy rehearsing The Female of the Species, right up until opening night tomorrow.

Cast in costume ran through key scenes on the impressive set under the watchful gaze of director Jo Blick when the Queenstown Times visited on Monday night, while crew members checked portable microphones and synchronised sound effects.

The mood among cast members Phena Byrne, David Cantwell, Rebecca Curran, Andrew Edgar, Jules Molloy and David Oakley was enthusiastic and they had complete possession of their characters.

Ms Blick said she was pleased with where the production of the hit adult comedy was.

"It's getting to the stage where they can't wait to get in front of a live audience and find out what they think.

"There's some thought-provoking material, some ridiculous farcical elements - and people will never look at taramasalata in the same way again."
