Police searching for a missing woman are seeking information about an item of clothing found washed up on the Lake Wakatipu shoreline yesterday.

The grey, stone-washed Glassons-brand size 10 miniskirt was found on rocks on the southern side of the Kelvin Heights Golf Course.

Police have been searching for missing Queenstown woman Renee Lisa Barrett for the past week and wanted to know if anyone had lost an item of clothing matching the description, Detective Matt Jones, of Queenstown, said yesterday.

Ms Barrett (42) has not been seen since May 20 and her vehicle was found unlocked and with the keys inside in Kelvin Heights last Friday.

More than 30 police, Queenstown and Wanaka LandSAR members and the Queenstown harbourmaster began searching Lake Wakatipu, the Kawarau River and homes in Kelvin Heights that day.

Search teams checked the river to its confluence with the Arrow River and went door to door in Kelvin Heights.

Police were anxious for information about Ms Barrett, who is slim with long dark hair, Det Jones said.

''Ms Barrett has medical conditions and both police and family members are concerned for her safety.''

Anyone with information is asked to contact Queenstown police on (03) 441-1600.
