Staff evacuated the building while Frankton and Queenstown firefighters and Queenstown police investigated an undetermined odour in Westpac at the Terrace Junction, about 50m from the BP service station, on Wednesday, at 11.10am.

Firefighters, with the help of Rockgas staff, checked the area to find the origin of the smell, which was deemed to be not harmful, although some bank staff members reported feeling nauseous when the odour was first detected.

No dangerous level of anything was found during the course of the investigation, which continued into Wednesday evening.
