The father of air force Flight Lieutenant Dan Pezaro - cleared on Tuesday of wrong-doing in a helicopter crash north of Wellington that claimed three lives on Anzac Day 2010 - said yesterday he was relieved.

Fl Lt Pezaro is the son of retired Wanaka general practitioner Dennis Pezaro, who told the Otago Daily Times the family was ''saddened'' by what had happened.

''I think it's proper to say the [Pezaro] family feels for those who had lost loved ones.

''This whole incident has been hanging over them for three years.

''It's finally reached a logical conclusion where people can start to move on.''

On Tuesday, a military tribunal at the Ohakea Air Force base found Fl Lt Pezaro, who was in command of a three-Iroquois squadron that encountered bad weather, not guilty of charges related to the crash of one of the helicopters.

Dr Pezaro said his son, who lives at Feilding, still flew helicopters for the air force and had had ''huge support'' from family and friends.
