Roys Bay boat ramp delayed

The completion of an upgraded foreshore and Roys Bay boat ramp area in Wanaka has run over budget and been pushed back to next year.

The project to build a new boat ramp beside the existing ramp has been under way for the past 12 months, but increased costs have forced a delay.

Queenstown Lakes District Council project manager Mark Symons told the Wanaka Community Board more funds were needed, because construction would have to take place in the next financial year.

There were no funds allocated under the 2009-10 financial year to cover extra construction costs, he said.

Board deputy chairman Ken Copeland said it was disappointing to have to tell boat users they would have to wait another year for the upgrades to happen.

Mr Symons said almost $40,000 had been spent on professional fees to prepare the "overall concept" of the foreshore development and undertake consultation with affected parties.

Board members approved unused funds of $109,000 - allocated to the ramp construction from the previous financial year - and recommended an extra allocation of $157,500 be forwarded for consideration into the 2009-10 long-term council community plan.
