Sections not sold at tender

Two abandoned 1012sq m sections near Cardrona village did not sell after tenders closed recently, although the Public Trust is willing to consider more offers, senior trust manager Dennis Robertson said.

The trust is acting on behalf of the estate of Columb Dalton, a Hawea Flat farmer who died in November 1900.

The trust, established in 1872, administered Mr Dalton's estate after he died, but Mr Dalton's ownership of the Cardrona sections was overlooked.

Last year, the Queenstown Lakes District Council brought them to the trust's attention following a "fence war" with Wanaka ratepayer Andre Prassinos and Queenstown lawyer Greg Stewart over other sections of abandoned Cardrona land.

Mr Robertson said several tenders were received but they were significantly below both the rateable valuation of $160,000 and the registered valuation.
