The Wakatipu Health Trust is welcoming the Southland District Health Board's proposal to shake up Wakatipu health services.

Trust spokeswoman Maria Cole said it was "quietly encouraged" by the consultation document.

"Overall, we are very pleased with the positive direction of the report.

"There are some areas where more detail and clarification are required and we will be seeking that from the DHB," she said.

The Southland board released its consultation document this week, which proposes to refurbish Lakes District Hospital and turn it into an integrated family healthcare centre.

It would be a one-stop unit, housing a team of healthcare providers.

Members of the public are encouraged to make submissions to the proposal and attend meetings at the Queenstown Memorial Hall on Tuesday at 4pm and 7pm.
