The sun shone on a crowd of 15,000 at the Gibbston Summer Concert on Saturday.

With the showers forecast for the afternoon staying away, free water and sunscreen were in hot demand as temperatures climbed into the 20s.

The concert at Gibbston Valley Winery, which featured overseas acts Heart, Foreigner and Three Dog Night, began at 11.30am with local bands Love Lost Demons and Ragged.

The show stepped up a gear when British American band Foreigner arrived on stage, with livewire vocalist Kelly Hansen revving up the crowd, and at one stage, climbing high up the stage scaffolding.

Heart vocalist Ann Wilson joined Foreigner to help perform their ballad I Want To Know What Love Is, before Heart came on stage at 5pm.

''The acoustics are amazing, and what a beautiful setting,'' was how Timaru's Rachael Comer summed up the event.

The concert was the largest event of a busy few days in the resort, including the sold out 11th Central Otago Pinot Noir Celebration on Friday and Saturday - showcasing wine from more than 40 Central Otago winemakers - and the Queenstown Golf Club's centennial celebrations.

Queenstown Lakes Mayor Vanessa van Uden said the influx of visitors had the resort ''buzzing'' all weekend, with a real ''vibe'' evident.
