Wakatipu primary pupils are invited to experience Arrowtown's gold-mining heritage for themselves by signing up today for the first school holiday programme in years at the Lakes District Museum.
The museum in Arrowtown has arranged daytime activities from tomorrow to Thursday this week, beginning with "Creating a gold masterpiece", from 10am to noon, followed by "Life as a Chinese miner", from 1pm to 3pm.
Wednesday activities involve "Planning a treasure hunt", from 10am to noon and "Treasure hunt trail", from 1pm to 3pm.
Thursday plans include second sessions of "Creating a gold masterpiece", from 10am to noon and "Life as a Chinese miner", from 1pm to 3pm.
Museum education officer Rachel Checketts said children would have "fun experiences with an educational element about the history of gold in their area".
The programme is a forerunner to Arrowtown's anniversary celebrations, beginning at Labour Weekend.
