The story is about a moggy called Mango who visits pupils almost daily. Family and friends gathered at the launch at the school on Tuesday night when Clarke gave the book its first reading and signed copies. She told well-wishers the original illustrations by years 1-2 pupils were given a pinch of "fairy dust" by the designer but praised all those involved in the fluffy feline fundraiser, which will raise money for the school. Mango, owned by pupils Levi and Ellie Carter, inspired the story, Clarke said.
"He has just become such a huge part of the school."
She has previously written short stories and poetry for children and adults but this is her first picture book.
Copies of the book are available at the school, the Lakes District Museum and online. Also pictured are (front, from left) Angelique Stanley-Jones (6), Phineas Thomas (7) and (back left) Ellie Carter.
