Charities enter the dragon’s den

The organisers of a Dragon’s Den-inspired fundraising event this coming Tuesday hope to make it an annual fixture.

The Perpetual Guardian 10x10 Queenstown Crowdfunding Event at Arthurs Point’s Canyon Brewing will benefit non-profits Pivotal Point, Trauma Aid Aotearoa and Women’s Shed Aotearoa.

The three charities will get five minutes each to make a pitch for the audience’s money, before taking questions from the crowd, the event’s MC and ‘Dragon for Good’, Queenstown hospo and tourism identity Darelle Jenkins.

Frankton-based Perpetual Guardian senior client manager Karen Smyth says it is their first time to run the event — "we’re dipping our toes in the water" — but they would love to make it a regular fixture.

The three charities were selected according to criteria including having total revenue under $1 million, being less than seven years old, and having a "grassroots feel", Smyth says.

The evening is anticipated to raise up to $25,000, to be shared across the three charities, with the Perpetual Guardian Foundation matching the first $7500 in donations dollar-for-dollar.

The event is at Canyon Brewing, June 23, 5.30pm, doors opening at 5pm. Donate $100 via the event’s Givealittle page to attend.
