Freezing temperatures, flat-out snowmaking and confidence in the forecast to come has prompted Coronet Peak to call it for an opening on Saturday.

Coronet Peak's ski area manager Ross Copland made the call this afternoon to reopen this Saturday.

"It's been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to get to this point. We've made every snow flake up here. We're obviously beyond delighted to open this weekend," he said in a statement this afternoon.

Coronet Peak's 217-strong snowmaking system had made 51.5 million litres of water when temperatures allowed over the past 16 days, equalling 129000m3 of snow volume.

The result is a 30 to 40cm snow base on the upper part of the mountain and 10-15cm at base, with more snowmaking expected to add to that tomorrow and overnight into Saturday.

The Coronet Express lift would be in action at 8am on Saturday morning with other lifts operating throughout the day and into the evening.

Night Skiing would also begin on Saturday from 4pm.

The company was pleased to be opening in time for the school holidays, he said.
The Remarkables has coped with Coronet's skiiers over the past few weeks while the field has been closed for lack of snow.

"The Remarkables has had large numbers of Australian school holiday visitors and people have had a great time," Mr Copland said.
