Another Queenstown developer is applying to the government to fast-track their project - in this case, partly to speed up worker housing.

Last week, it was revealed a fast-track application had gone in for a Coronet Peak gondola - spearheaded by local-based technology entrepreneur Rod Drury - along with a village development.

This week, Gavin Moore, a partner in the large Silver Creek housing development above Frankton Rd, confirmed the company is hoping to take advantage of the government’s Fast-track Approvals Bill to speed up changes to its master plan and infrastructure work.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council has approved their subdivision’s master plan for 580 residential units.

However, for future stages the plan will comprise four-bedroom homes - three bedrooms plus a flat - that will sell for between about $2.4 million and $5 million.

"We’re trying to break that up a bit so we can get some workers’ accommodation, say 100 one-bedders - that’d sell for about $400,000 to $500,000", Mr Moore said.

The company could also apply to the council to amend its master plan, but that would potentially take much longer than through the government’s new fast-track regime, if it goes ahead.

He said the fast-track process would also speed up their infrastructure works, such as internal roading, because it would bypass the council’s engineering acceptance process under its land development and subdivision code of practice.

Silver Creek, at present planned for 15 neighbourhoods, stretches 1.2km west to east from above Goldfield Heights to Middleton Rd.
