Driver bolts after crashing stolen car in Queenstown

Queenstown police are looking for a man who did a runner after crashing a stolen car in downtown Queenstown last night.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said the man, who was driving the green Nissan Pulsar, drove it into a power pole in Shotover St after a patrol car activated its flashing lights about 11.30pm.

He ran off up Hay St while the sole passenger, an intoxicated man, was arrested and given a pre-charge warning for possessing a drug utensil.

He was not injured in the minor crash.

Sen Sgt Enoka said the driver may have ventured on to private properties in the Hay St area, and asked that members of the public who saw any suspicious behaviour to contact police.
The car was stolen in Invercargill earlier this week.
