Pro mountain biker Robin Goomes, 29, last year became the first-ever female winner of the Red Bull Rampage in Virgin, Utah, in the United States.
Last Friday, she defended her title, delivering a standout run which featured two backflips and ‘suicide no-handers’ on a highly-exposed line.
The premier big mountain freeride event is one of the toughest action sports competitions in the world, which tests creativity, control and courage. Seven female riders dropped in for the finals, including fellow Queenstowner Vinny Armstrong, 27.
Goomes, who redefined what’s possible on the desert cliffs, was really proud of her first run.
"The main goal is to ride your run well.
"Obviously, I wanted to win, but all you can do is ride your best and if you can do that, you have a good chance."
She took the title by just 0.17 points from the United States’ Hannah Bergemann, who was on debut and won the athlete-voted McGazza Spirit Award, while Canada’s Georgia Astle came in third.
