
Operating daily from Queenstown airport from mid-June until the end of August, the flights offer visitors the chance to see the Whakatipu Basin’s alpine landscape bathed in the glow of the setting sun.
The 40-minute, late afternoon flights pass over Coronet Peak, Cardrona Alpine Resort and The Remarkables.
Air Milford operations manager Antony Sproull says it is designed to be an ideal start or finish to a Queenstown ski holiday, giving guests the chance to see the mountains they have skied — or are about to ski — from a different perspective.
"Winter in Queenstown really changes how the place feels, and golden hour is the best time to see it," Sproull says.
"This flight is about making the beauty of the mountains more accessible, and giving people the chance to experience their scale and beauty in a way you simply can’t from the ground.
"It also feels like it stretches the short winter days a little longer, as we head out chasing the last of the sun."
In high-wing Cessna aircraft purpose-built for scenic flying, experienced pilots provide commentary that "brings the landscape, skifields and mountain ranges to life", he says.
