Illuminated views

This picture of Moke Lake, by Lucia King-Smith (12), of Queenstown, is part of the "Illuminate Our Place" exhibition in Auckland.

Inspired by Geoff Ross, of Ecoya, and his belief we all need to take action to protect our environment, 10 New Zealanders, including Lucia, have joined forces for the exhibition.

Lucia was asked to take a photograph of something special about the environment to exhibit alongside high-profile contributors including Lucy Lawless, Dave Dobbyn and Mils Muliaina. She chose Moke Lake, between Queenstown and Glenorchy.

"This photo makes me think 'Wow, look at the beautiful place I grew up in!' In summer we go to Moke Lake walking, swimming, fishing, camping, riding and paddle boarding. We light camp fires and cook barbecues, play in the raupo, catch dragonflies and always go home tired. In autumn the leaves fall and blow everywhere, they are like colours flying in the air that blend together. In winter it's a snow wonderland like someone has cast a spell... My Mum and Dad have talked to me about the water cycle and I would like to protect the beautiful clean water. My photo is all water," Lucia said.

All images will be auctioned, with proceeds going to charity.
