A local appliance retailer, four car dealerships and a construction business have helped improve Happiness House’s current premises.

On discovering its oven was kaput, trustee Pam Shaw approached Harvey Norman, which offered one at cost and delivered it.

To make up the $1200 shortfall, "I thought if I go to four car salespeople and ask them for 300 bucks each, there’s an oven, right?’

"I went to six people and four of them gave me the money in less than an hour."

Meanwhile, Cook Brothers Construction, through its sustainability programme, used diverted construction materials to provide storage and display space for the centre’s clothing and household items.

Outgoing manager Lena Boss says "the new storage and display solutions have made an enormous difference to how the shop functions, and knowing they were created from recycled materials makes it even better".
