Six pupils from Mt Aspiring gained 11 awards at the 2010 scholarship examinations - a result which puts the secondary school among the best in regional Otago.
A standout academic performance from Cory Johnson resulted in two outstanding scholarship awards in the subjects of art history and history, while he also gained scholarship in English.
His achievements have secured him a $5000 award, which he is eligible to receive for each of the the next three years.
Cory was joined by fellow MAC pupils Tom Sherson and Andrew Stewart, who were also multiple scholarship winners to receive a financial bonus, while Emma Simpson, Michael Hammerich, and Tamsin Fitzgerald gained recognition in single subjects.
Cory, Tom and Andrew and Emma are scattering to different universities around New Zealand soon. They said the financial benefits they accrued through the scholarship examinations will help alleviate their shared concerns about the rising cost of life at university.
They were proud of their scholastic achievements and excited about pursuing more academic success as they began their undergraduate studies.
MAC principal Wayne Bosley said the 11 scholarships gained by the school were a "fantastic" result.
"This ranks among our best-ever scholarship results. We're really pleased for the [pupils] and have acknowledged their success in front of everyone at the school here today," he said yesterday.
Pupils from Cromwell College, Dunstan College, Mt Aspiring College, South Otago High School and Wakatipu High School won 28 scholarships in total - four of which were outstanding scholarships.
The remainder of secondary schools in regional Otago did not enter pupils in the New Zealand scholarship examinations or did not have successful candidates.
