From a six-month pop-up, Starkwhite evolved into five years of successful exhibitions, events and collaborations with local organisations including a role in establishing the First Thursdays initiative across CBD galleries.
‘‘From the outset, the Queens-town gallery was an experiment,’’ owner Dominic Feuchs says.
‘‘That it grew into a five-year programme of meaningful exhibitions, community initiatives and creative partnerships under director Kelly Carmichael’s leadership is something we are immensely proud of.’’
However, it’s still planning local pop-up projects this year and beyond.
Carmichael, who’s also Arrowtown Creative Arts Society’s co-chair, will continue as an art consultant for Stark-white along with her role as Oceania regional rep for the International Award for Public Art, based out of Shanghai University.
‘‘Queenstown has been an extraordinary place to work,’’ she says.
‘‘We are deeply grateful to the artists, audiences, collaborators and organisations who have supported us.
‘‘As we shift our focus internationally and back to Auckland, we carry forward everything we’ve learned here.’’
