The independent inquiry in to a cold chain failure which affected the efficacy of more than 1500 southern Covid-19 vaccinations has started.
SDHB chief executive Chris Fleming told the board this week that 1601 potentially problematic doses, given to 1571 individuals by Queenstown firm Engage Safety, had been identified.
The affected patients had been advised to receive a replacement vaccination and so far 943 (60%) doses had been dispensed, Mr Fleming said.
Of the remainder, 2% had contracted Covid-19, 4.8% had deferred receiving a replacement vaccine, 3.5% were undecided, 12.4% said they intended to be re-vaccinated, and 6% declined.
``(70%) have not actively responded to communications and require a first conversation, Mr Fleming said.
The reviewer — the SDHB did not respond by deadline to a question about who was doing the work — began work a fortnight ago and had spent three days in Queenstown interviewing relevant people.
They had also spoken to relevant SDHB staff and reviewed all documentation, he said.
