Little Pippa Craigie was pleased as punch with her brown trout — which weighed in at 1.25kg.

The 7-year-old caught the whopper at the 37th Glenorchy Fishing Competition on Saturday.  She was overall winner of the youth/child section at the annual fundraiser for the Glenorchy Playgroup.

Her whole family had reason to celebrate. The Craigies — Pippa, her dad Cameron, granddad Richard and brothers Max (5) and Tim (3) — won the the Oswald Breitenberger Memorial Trophy for best local family catch.

Seventy-five fish were caught by the more than 200 anglers taking part on the day.

Scott Percy landed the heaviest — a brown trout weighing 1.475kg.

Organiser Jenny Huckstep said it was a "fantastic turnout and the day was [an] awesome, super sunny, really nice day".

"That will have made the fishing a little more difficult but there was probably a few more sore heads this morning because of it."

This year’s proceeds are going towards general maintenance and running costs of the playgroup. The final total has yet to be confirmed but the event raised close around $4000.
