A 60- to 80-year-old weeping willow was felled yesterday after it was damaged in strong winds last Friday.
A large branch fell on to a public path in Earnslaw Park, reportedly leaving two people with minor injuries.
As of yesterday afternoon, Queenstown District Council had not heard from the reportedly injured people but a spokesman said staff had been in touch with police who attended the incident on Friday and were keen to follow up with those involved.
The spokesman said council’s parks team was looking into sourcing a replacement tree.
The spokesman said the felled tree had a visual assessment in September.
It would also continue to visually assess trees in the area and conduct further tests if the trees showed signs of internal decay.
