Ryan Dowling smashed a magnificent 148 for Ranfurly in a 58-run win over Gimmerburn at Gimmerburn in the Maniototo Eastern Districts competition on Saturday afternoon.
Dowling got his side through to 253 for three off 40 overs in an innings where he scored 124 runs in boundaries, hitting 16 fours and 10 sixes in a man-of-the-match performance.
Earlier, opener James Becker built his own impressive innings, scoring 73 to set a good platform, with he and Dowling combining for a 218-run second-wicket partnership. Vaughn Dowling picked up three wickets for the visitors and Steve Pringle finished the match with two for 37.
• At Naseby, visitor Palmerston scored a four-wicket win over the home side after Naseby scored 200 for nine off 40 overs.
Hamish McKenzie batted well for 47, and Rex Gibson (41) and Ian Forester (38) also contributed with the bat. Roger Buckingham took five for 23 with the ball for Palmerston.
Buckingham scored 53 runs in the chase and retired to give others some time at the crease.
James Grubb also scored a half-century in the win, Palmerston reaching 201 for the loss of five.

• Albion beat Dunstan by 90 runs at Luggate. The home side won the toss and elected to bat, amassing 253 for the loss of seven after 50 overs. Opening batsman Jonathan Homer scored 54 and Ross McGregor and Richard McLeod scored 47 and 43 respectively. Jayden Attfield and Alistair Banks were the best of the Dunstan bowlers, taking two wickets apiece. Once again it was Ryan Wheeler who led the way with the ball for Albion, with three for 15. Gareth Tate finished up his stint with the ball taking two for 31.
• Queenstown managed a five-wicket win over Blacks Hill at Poolburn. Batting first, Blacks Hill made 189 for the loss of nine, with Tom Cooney and Kieran Eathorne each scoring 30. Bowler Mike McGee for Queenstown took three of the nine wickets to fall in a fine spell. Queenstown replied with an excellent performance from its top order, first drop Kyle Paterson scoring 69 not out to be there when the winning runs came, his side only four down.
Earlier openers Tom Dagg (53) and Matt Spooner (31) put Queenstown into a good position, with Paterson finishing off a good batting performance.
• Cromwell got the points from Alexandra by default.
Bowls
Two Waipiata club teams in the Maniototo sub-centre optional pairs finished in the top two for the tournament.
Tony Andrews and Steve Pike came away with the Baird Cup for Waipiata, and the team of Elizabeth and Dickson Andrews was second. Ray Kearney and Dave Keenan, of Ranfurly, rounded out the top three.
Alexandra W and RSA 2 had three wins and maximum points in round 14 of the competition.
Millers Flat also pushed its claim for a top spot with three wins. Clyde 3 also had a rare three-win round. Alexandra GW, RSA 1, Alexandra C and Hickeys were unlucky this week, all not able to record a win.
NORTH OTAGO

Valley took home the Dick Hunt Trophy on Saturday afternoon when it defeated Albion by three wickets in the final at Awamoa Park.
Albion won the toss and, batting first, was dismissed for 117 in the 39th over. Once again, all-rounder Brad Kernahan held the side together with 33.
Bowling for Valley, Sean Todd took three for 23 and Nick Kelland, Blair Malcolm and Hamish McKenzie took two wickets each.
Valley lost an early wicket to be 12 for one after three overs and Kernahan chipped in with further wickets to have Valley 63 for four after 18 overs.
Solid batting from Matt Pile (25) and Hamish McKenzie (26) saw Valley through to 122 for seven in the 31st over. Kernahan finished with three for 35 off his 10 overs.
Bowls
Awamoa took the Slater Memorial for town clubs on Saturday in an interclub tournament played at the Meadowbank club. It finished with t10 points from five wins to Bob Wilson (2), Ken Piner (2) and Mark Lister for a differential of plus 57.
Phoenix, with wins to Trevor Wilson (2), Trevor Robertson and Doug Harwood, finished second with eight points and a differential of minus 29, while Meadowbank finished with six points and a differential of minus 28 with wins to Graeme Sangster, Jock Sangster and Don Pema, all in the first round.
• The Anderson Bowl for country clubs was played at Otematata on Saturday. Kurow took the honours with eight points after Norm Cochrane and Brian Trembath won two of their three games, while Otematata finished second with seven points, from wins to Dan Gray (2) and Jack Coulan (1).
The North Otago team to take part in the Zone Six intercentre tournament in Alexandra on February 25 and 26 was announced on Saturday. Awamoa's Mark Lister got the singles berth. Trevor Wilson, of Phoenix, will join Awamoa's Bob Wilson in the pairs and the fours team, skipped by Ken Piner, of Awamoa, is Sonny Brown (Awamoa), Graeme Sangster (Meadowbank) and Craig McDonald (Awamoa).
Tennis
Wins to Barry McDonald and Francis Leslie-Smith in the singles gave Oamaru its two wins as it lost 2-4 to Hampden on Saturday in Southern sub association tennis. Bev Ross and Neville Caldwell picked up singles wins for Hampden, which then won both doubles. Herbert beat Waimanui 7-2 with Scott Ewing, Nathan Caldwell, Kerry Packer, Kate Caldwell and Fiona Caldwell winning their singles matches. Herbert took two of the three doubles encounters. Waikouaiti beat Weston 5-4.
SOUTH OTAGO
- Norman Woods
Balclutha's Blair Thomson won the Bowls South Otago men's open singles title when he defeated Graeme Hislop (Kaitangata) in a match of 155min.
Hislop made a good start and led 12-06 after 12 ends, then Thomson found his length. Hislop began to miss some crucial drives and Thompson finally secured victory by 21-17.
• In the men's interclub round 11 played on Saturday, Kaka Point retained the lead from Balclutha, which has cut the seasiders' lead to seven, with two rounds to go.
Kaka Point held out Finegand to win 8-4. For Kaka Point, John Bisset and Ray Hopkins scored two wins each.
Kaitangata scored an 8-4 win over Town and Country. For Kaitangata, Graeme Hislop was in fine form, picking up two wins. For Town and Country, David Renton and Bruce Campbell had one win each. Campbell scored his win over Bob McAuley in a triples game 7-6.
• Milton Blue scored an 8-4 win in a local derby played at Milton over Milton White. For the Blue team, Sandy McNoe (2), Geryy Wyber and Bill McDonald all recorded wins.
• Clinton scored a 9-3 win over Owaka. For Clinton, Alan Mathieson scored two wins.
Geoff Hurst was too good for Tom Dallas with a 21-8 victory.
Highest win of the day went to Balclutha, which scored a 12-0 win over Milton Gold. For Balclutha, Noddy Thomson and Blair Thomson scored two wins each.
Cricket
Milton defeated Lawrence on Saturday. Lawrence batted first to be all out for 86 in very windy conditions. Best batting came from Tony Omelvena with 27.
Best bowling for Milton came from Braden Adams with four for 16 and Ryan Littlejohn with three for 35. Milton lost Simon Scott to the first ball of the innings, and struggled, but in the end reached 87 for seven to claim victory. Braden Adams top-scored with 22.
• Kaitangata came back to form with a big win over SOHS by 139 runs.
Kaitangata batted first and scored 240 for five wickets.
Highlight of the innings came from opening batsman Blair Bennington, who scored 101 not out, the first century of the club season. His innings included 11 fours and two sixes. Roger Pennell made 39 and Mark Phillips 21.
Best bowling for SOHS came from Scott Sutherland with two for 23. SOHS replied with 101 all out. Bowling for Kaitangata, Matt Herring took three for 18 and Mark Phillips two for 12.
Owaka scored 216 for five wickets in its game against Clinton. Top score went to Toby Batchelor with 76 not out.
Clinton, in reply, was all out for 101. Kurt Thomson scored 47 with the only innings of note.
Bowling for Owaka, Gavin Anderson took three for 35, Quenton Gare two for 36 and Cameron Burgess two for 10.
