Ranfurly picked up another win in the penultimate round of cricket in the Maniototo Eastern Districts competition when it beat bottom-placed Waikouaiti by 38 runs at home at the weekend.

Batting first, the home side put together a competitive score of 212 all out off 40 overs, a 135-run first-wicket partnership from openers Kieran Parker and James Becker setting a good platform for a large total. Parker went on to score 103 and Becker 28 in the partnership before a collapse saw Ryan Dowling (54) as the only other batsman to help in the total.

Aaron Ray was the man to stem the flow of runs for Waikouaiti as he picked up four for 41 while Brad Williams and Drew Campbell picked up three wickets each.

Waikouaiti also started well with the bat, the ever-consistent Murray Dempster making 84 and Campbell 25 before their side was bundled out for 174. Steve Pringle had excellent figures of three for 16 and Luke Steele three for 28, the Ranfurly fieldsmen breathing a sigh of relief when the main threat, Dempster, was run out.

Palmerston got the points from Gimmerburn by way of default.

Naseby had the bye.

In the Vincent Koford Cup competition, Albion got the win away from home over Queenstown by three wickets.

The home side was at the crease first and did not quite score enough runs, as it was all out for 198 from 50 overs. Sean McKone did his best to make sure his side was in the hunt, making 52 not out, but had little help from the other batsmen. That was thanks in part to the bowling of Joe Cotter, who took a five-wicket bag, while Jarred Cunningham had three for 42. Ken Galloway also had excellent figures of none for 10 off 12 overs.

Albion reached the target in the 44th over, thanks to 68 from Tim Cottor and 45 from Cory Blair.

Ryan Wheeler was not out on 32 when the winning runs came.

Fraser Wilson finished the match with three for 38 while Cam Fawkner had two for 40.

Cromwell continued its winning way by beating Dunstan by three wickets at Clyde.

Cromwell reached the target set by Dunstan with three overs to spare and three wickets in hand, Ross Anderson scoring 47 batting at number three. Tyson Clark chipped in with 36 while Michael Ritchie was not out 24 at the conclusion. Grubb continued his good day for Albion, taking two wickets to go alongside his top score.
