Naseby continued its winning start to the cricket season when it beat a youthful Palmerston side by 26 runs at Palmerston on Saturday.

Batting first, the visiting side made 164 before being dismissed. James Pyle led the way with 61, supported by Mark Becker, who managed a well-played 40.

James Grubb and Jarod Smilie restricted the Naseby score by taking three wickets each for the home side. Cam Grubb took two for 19.

Palmerston batted well in reply but fell short, with James and Cam Grubb the only batsmen to feature in the chase, with 37 and 23 respectively. Pyle carried his good form with the bat over to the bowling crease, taking four for 12.

Rex Gibson also bowled well, picking up a pair of Palmerston wickets. It was a good effort from a Palmerston side that featured just one player over the age of 20.

• At Ranfurly, the home side was all out for just 99 against rival Gimmerburn which reached the target just one wicket down.

Sam Miller made 37, almost half of the runs for the home side, while batting partner Raymond Hollows looked good for his 17. It was the outstanding figures of three Gimmerburn bowlers that paved the way for the win, Charlie Hore finishing the best of the three with three for 5. Tim O'Neill also had three wickets for just 13 runs and Paul Dougherty two for 11.

Gimmerburn reached the target easily with Shane O'Neill 56 not out at the end and extras making up the majority of the remaining runs. Luke Steele was the sole wicket-taker for Ranfurly.

• Macraes scored its first win of the season when Waikouaiti defaulted.

• In the Vincent twenty/20 competition, Alexandra picked up an excellent five-wicket win at home over Cromwell.

Cromwell struggled with the bat this week and only managed 118 off its 20 overs, Mickey Ritchie top-scoring for the second week in a row with 29. He had support from Tom Gillespie (20) and his brother Andy Ritchie (16) but their total would prove to be too small as Dave Lilly and Peter Breen took three wickets apiece for the home side.

Alexandra, led by Simon Williams with 45, reached the total with one ball to spare. He and opening batsman Brendan Domigan played exceptionally well with seven boundaries between them.

• Dunstan beat previously unbeaten Albion away from home at Luggate by seven wickets.

The home side was at the crease first and managed just 116 for the loss of nine. Captain Jonathan Homer led the way with the bat once again, scoring 36 while Ryan Wheeler made 25.

Dunstan batted extremely well, losing just two wickets on the way to the win. Scott Paulin (39) was its best batsman on the day.

Sean Windle was Queenstown's best batsman as he smacked eight sixes in an innings of 76. Only Tom Cooney really featured with the ball for Blacks Hill, picking up two wickets.

Blacks Hill batted well in the chase only losing four wickets but ultimately came up short. Cooney also batted well, making 35 not out in his side's 121 for four.

In the chase, Waitaki never built up momentum and was dismissed for 80 runs in the 30th over.
