Flight to Timaru, airport new locations of interest

The Ministry of Health has included a flight from Wellington and the Timaru Airport as new Covid locations of interest.

At 1pm the Ministry of Health updated a previous location announced on Saturday, Flight NZ8193 Wellington - Timaru.

It advises that passengers on the plane are being considered close contacts and should self-isolate and get tested immediately and five days after the time of exposure.

The date of the flight was Friday, January 28, and the exposure time is from 9am - 10.30am.

Along with the flight the MoH has added Timaru Airport (Friday 28 January, 10.30am - 10.45am) as a new location of interest.

Today there were 126 new Covid cases to report.

Of these, there were five new cases in the Canterbury DHB area.

One of the new Canterbury cases has been linked to a previously reported case, the ministry said.

"In addition, there are a further four linked cases being announced today, which will be officially added to the Ministry’s case numbers tomorrow."

So far no active cases in the South Canterbury or Southern DHB areas have been announced.

The Ministry said because the Omicron variant is now the dominant strain in New Zealand, the specific Covid variant was no longer being reported alongside case numbers.
