Adventurers Steve Gurney and Steve Moffatt will continue their journey from Aoraki/Mt Cook to the sea later this month.

The pair, who have been following in the footsteps of 1890 mountaineers Marmaduke Dixon and George Mannering, had to temporarily halt their journey last week, after Moffatt suffered frostbitten feet while ascending Aoraki/Mount Cook.

They were concerned about the risk of infection, especially with the prospect of wet feet in a kayak for four days.

Gurney and Moffatt plan to continue the trip on December 14, starting at Ball Flat in the Tasman Valley - appropriately where Dixon and Mannering took a few days' break between the finish of their climb and the start of the kayak leg to the coast.

Gurney will kayak from the newly formed Tasman glacier lake, while Moffatt will walk to Birch Stream, as Dixon and Mannering did.

The pair are making a movie comparing the differences between adventure technology, lifestyles and beliefs between the present and the 1890s.

Moffatt is making the journey using gear, food and clothing similar to Dixon's and Mannering's, including climbing in leather hob-nail boots and a tweed suit, while Gurney has the latest equipment.
